Lit & Deb this Thursday 9th November at 7pm will be hosting Gerard Stembridge and Myles Dungan who will both be reading from their new books. The pair will also interview each other and take questions from the floor. The event will take place in the Upper Aula Maxima, and there will be a wine and cheese reception before hand.
Stembridge's new novel, According to Luke, is a darkly comic critique of Ireland's Celtic Tiger middle class and the corrupt government that it supports, while never neglecting its emotional core; its utterly recognizable, flawed characters. This is the first novel from Stembridge, whose career was launched with his writing partnership with Dermot Morgan on Scrap Saturday. Since the he has written 11 plays and screenplays including About Adam starring Kate Hudson, which he also directed.
Dungan's book, How the Irish Won the West, is a collection of stories about Irish people in the Wild West of 1800s America and how they shaped the modern multi-cultural nation. Myles is probably best known as the presenter of Rattlebag, RTE's radio arts programme for many years. Myles is also an historian of considerable note with books of Irish History such as They Shall Not Grow Old and The Stealing of the Irish Crown Jewels to his name. Myles has recently been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to the University of California, Berkley.
It promises to be a great night, so do come along!
