I'm going tomorrow as part of a group but I'm not really looking forward to it to be honest. The premise was explained to me as "The Wizard of Oz for black people, except we don't actually have any black people in our cast." Seems in poor taste at worst, iffy at best. :|

If it helps, one of the Wicked Witches is reasonably attractive.

I went to see the Blue Raincoat Theatre Company production of at swim two birds in the Town Hall last Friday and it was absolutely fantastic. If any one has a chance to go see it else where I would suggest jumping at the opportunity.

Going to see The Breakfast Club in a while - can't wait!

Have you guys seen any of the Theatre Week performances around campus yet?

Sooo... Breakfast Club... With one or two exceptions, IMO, it was dreadful.

The cast was not great, once again, with one or two exceptions. There were better people out there for the roles and there was little chemistry between the actors (even though this has been in the making since Oct/Nov), I know the characters were all from different cliques but the actors didn't really play off of each other as much as they could have. There were also a couple of staging problems; people blocking others, not projecting and the like. Also (not just for this show), the whole stage has not been effectively lit and it's distracting when the character is stuck in darkness or conspicuously trying to move towards the light. And it's being held in the Cube - the acoustics in there are absolute shite!

Very disappointed :(

Went to the One Act Plays on Monday night, very good; excepting the first one, a horrendously clichéd scenario....

Anyone else go to The Last Days of Judas Iscariot? Thought it had some excellent parts, but overall was quite flawed. Great use of music at the end.

Some thoughts on it:

- The Indian lawyer was woefully miscast. Not his fault.

- The devil was clearly going for Heath Ledger's Joker, but that's too hard an act to follow.

- The judge's accent was muck, as is usually the case when amateur actors are directed to put on accents. Likewise with Simon (I think), he basically sounded like Forrest Gump.

- Jesus was quite good, if only a small part.

- That skanger one was brilliant, really well performed.

I thought he did a good job - provided entertainment at least. Then again, I know the guy, plus he has a powerful Dublin accent, so that could have made things more entertaining for me. He was for comic effect after all.
Aye, the accents could have been improved upon, but that would have been the case even with Hollywood actors, I dare say.
The skanger threw me a little, possibly because it was very near the start of the show and I wasn't expecting it. In context.

Dapto, I have to disagree. The music was a great idea, but poorly used. It was far too loud and drowned out the actors on occasion. The opening and bar scenes, especially.

Jarlath was excellent, and while his performance did seem to draw a lot from Heath Ledger, it didn't exactly dominate it. He was brilliant in his own right.

Jesus seemed an almost unnecessary character in the whole thing.

I do agree that the Indian character could have been better, but Cunningham wasn't too great either and Mother Theresa should have been a bit more vile, I reckon.

Freud was hilarious.

Also spotted

All workshop participants are enrolled in the 'make-it-up' club, entitling them to HALF PRICE OR LESS tickets to all Laughter Lounge shows. For more info or an application email spontaneous theatre (at) gmail (dot) com"
